No Kill Columbus is raising funds to send local advocates to the 2013 No Kill Conference for July 13th-14th in Washington, D.C.
How do you build a No Kill community? How do you get animal control, the health department and other government agencies to embrace it? How do you include feral cats in your community’s lifesaving protection? And what about those big black dogs, shy cats and other “compromised” animals with impediments to adoption – can good homes be found for them too?
The conference has been called “a prerequisite for rescue groups and organizations that are serious about changing their communities to No Kill", and that is us!
No Kill Columbus, GA has been a catalyst for recent changes at Columbus Animal Care & Control, but we want to learn more!
We would like to send at least two local advocates to this year's Conference; the No Kill Columbus board President, and the moderator of the local animal rescue facebook page, Happy Homes. We are setting a fundraising goal of $1600 to cover the cost of Conference Registration, plus Airfare & Hotel Accomidations.
Donations can be made directly to our designated PayPal fund by clicking the image above, or through our online fundraising campaign at YouCaring.com.
Check back in and follow us as we announce several fundraising events specifically for this fund, and keep you updated on our fundraising progress!

No Kill Columbus is a non-profit organization that has asked our local city officials to implement The No Kill Equation. This is a sheltering model based on innovative, non-lethal programs and services, which have already saved tens of thousands of animals across the nation. But instead of embracing No Kill, many shelters, including Columbus Animal Care and Control, cling to their antiquated methods, methods that result in the killing of thousands of healthy, adoptable pets every year. Communities CAN save the vast majority of pets if they commit to do so, even in the face of public irresponsibility or economic crisis. Many of the programs identified as key components in saving lives are more cost-effective than killing.
Dollars and Sense: The economic benefits of No Kill
When did you last hear an advertisement for "The Pound"? You haven't have you???
Advertise the animals and increase revenue per adoption rather than a less profitable death.
When have you ever seen a "Pound Puppy" outside of a shelter kennel?
Get them outside in the grass and you have a completely different animal then the one that was sulking in a concrete corner.
In the sunshine his tail begins to wag, he skips around and interacts with people in a stress free environment. In the Pound, he growls, retreats and acts out due to his surroundings.
Our Animal Control does offer offsite adoption events on Saturdays!
Please check their Facebook page every Saturday for locations and times.
Columbus Animal Care and Control
The public adopts from the places that are advertised and shown in a positive light.
CHANGE THE WAY THE PUBLIC THINKS ABOUT "THE POUND" and lives will be saved and revenue generated. Joined with the rest of the No Kill Equation and shelters will empty in a matter of days.
17 MILLION homes consider taking in a new pet every year. 8 MILLION animals are placed into shelters , of those 8 million HALF are threatened with death!!!! There is no pet over population, people just choose Breeders, Pet Stores and Puppy Mills over shelter Pets!
Change their image, change their numbers, change their world!

Timeline of Events...
Columbus has been killing animals as a means of population control for years. Until recently, nobody had challenged the status-quo, and killing was the first resort in dealing with the animals that found themselves at Animal Control. Here you can see what started the recent changes in our community, a network of animal lovers coming together, discussing the recently developed No Kill Equation, and demanding the reform of our local government-funded Animal Control Center. No longer will we accept the two-pronged approach to save a few, and kill the rest. Please click on the text in blue to view supporting links, images, and documents.

However, we have no intentions of waiting around any longer while the killing continues.
“We all have to get along” is code for “don’t criticize us when we betray the animals.” There are four legs holding up the table of killing: 1. The Myth of Pet Overpopulation, 2. The Myth that We All Want the Same Thing, 3. The Myth that We All Must Get Along (even when the groups betray our cause), and 4. The Myth of Fates Worse than Death. We betray the animals when we put allegiance to those mythologies and the groups which promote them above saving lives. ~Nathan Winograd
